Boiler Controls

A 10-25% energy saving can be made through the use of intelligent boiler controls.

Most boilers use energy in excess of the actual requirements needed to heat a building as a result of two main issues:

1) Boilers lose heat through ‘cycling’, especially in the summer months when the only demand on the boiler is for hot water. Each time the boiler cycles it purges the combustion space, in effect cooling the internal space it has just heated. The boiler then unnecessarily fires to recover the lost heat bringing it up to temperature ready for a second firing when a heating demand occurs from the building.

2) 80% of commercial buildings house boilers of a greater size than their requirements in order to cope with all eventualities e.g. maintenance of boilers, worst case weather scenarios, increased demand following the growth of the business. The majority of time, however an increased amount of energy will be consumed operating the larger boiler beyond the requirements of the building.
