Carbon Footprint Ltd – the international environmental consultancy and host of the Web’s no 1 Carbon Footprint calculator – is proud to be selected as a sponsor for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Awards 2008.
The awards recognise businesses in the local area for their commitment & demonstration of successful environmental management that leads to real reductions in carbon emissions.
Said MD John Buckley, “We are delighted to be actively involved in the awards and will be actively involved in assessing award applications”.
Hampshire & the Isle of Wight has come under focus as a region of considerable business growth and enterprise right now. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Partnership exists to encourage and support all businesses – particularly SMEs to adopt sustainable business practices – i.e. one which takes action on its environmental, social and economic impacts. It offers a range of support, by way of advise, training & events, to help businesses www.the-sbp.co.uk/Home.aspx?ChannelID=26
“It is key for the region to lead by example in the fight against climate change and these awards rightly recognise those who are actively managing their impact” added Buckley.
Entrants to the awards will be judged in categories including small, medium and large businesses, Environmental Innovation and Technology and leadership. The awards ceremony will take place on 21 November and is being run in accordance with BS 8901:2007 Specification for a Sustainable Event Management System.
The benefits to managing environmental impact go beyond the needs of corporate & social responsibility and promotional objectives. In the current energy climate, every business that reduces its environmental impact will also be saving energy and significant operational costs.
With energy process at an all time high – and projected to go higher over coming years – businesses who manage their carbon footprint will save on utility bills. ”Businesses frequently waste 30% of electricity they use – that’s a huge financial impact” said Buckley
For businesses starting to consider their environmental impact in the UK and globally, Carbon Footprint offers a free business emissions calculation service on-line. Buckley concluded - “ Measuring your carbon footprint is the first step to reducing climate impact and also savings business costs.“
